SOTW #34 (Sig Of The Week, Week 34)

A weekly sig contest thread where the site's GFX crowd flexed their Photoshop chops — and the image host in question doubles as a slur-laced relic of the era.

This is a continuation (page 2) of the Week 34 'Sig Of The Week' contest thread on Fkn0wned.Com, where members submitted signature graphics for community rating. Regular NecroticNecro clarifies the mandatory image-hosting rule for entries, ZoaQ drops in a sig submission, and -Still Life- compliments Necrotic's text work while asking about hidden detail in the design. It's a small, casual corner of the forum, low-drama, mostly just members showing off GFX work and chatting about upload rules.

[V] SOTW #41 (2010) — Sig of the Week Voting Thread

Four signatures, one Steam prize, and Bon walking away with the win again.

A Sig Of The Week voting thread from Fkn0wned's Art & Design section, where members submitted signature graphics and the community voted for their favorite. Signature #4 ran away with it at nearly 70% of the vote, prompting some good-natured ribbing about the winner (BONxFIRE) collecting a prize yet again. Light, casual replies with quick votes and one-liners rather than any real drama — a snapshot of the forum's regular GFX/design culture.

SOTW Image Uploader Announcement (Niggorex.com)

The Sig Of The Week crew gets its own image host — and even the site's mascot admits the skin outshines fkn0wned's own.

A member known as Niggorex announces the launch of a personal free image/file hosting site to be used for Sig Of The Week (SOTW) entries, laying out public vs. registered uploader tiers and basic usage rules. Super moderator NoNamE! replies approvingly, jokingly noting the new site's design looks better than fkn0wned's own. It's a small, practical infrastructure post for the GFX/signature crowd rather than a drama thread, capturing the era's habit of members running their own side hosts for the community.

RivaL took 1st place (their first win), with Demfire and Archies rounding out 2nd and 3rd. Seven sigs, one crown — the week Shifty and Sideways duked it out in the GFX Basement's weekly showdown.

This was the voting thread for the 36th 'Sig Of The Week' contest, a recurring GFX Basement tradition where members submitted signature graphics and the community voted for the best one. Shifty, a Co-Manager, posted the poll and rules (self-voting banned, IPs monitored for spam votes). The field included Sideways, SpaceOddity, SubZero, Shifty, -Still Life-, waLLa, and ZoaQ, with Shifty narrowly edging out Sideways in the final tally out of 43 votes cast.

Custom Avatars for Sale by Shifty

A supervisor was hand-slinging custom avatars for $3 a pop — free if you were cool enough to be Staff or 1K Club.

A thread in the Other Trades subforum where longtime Supervisor 'Shifty.' advertised a custom avatar-making service, showing off a handful of example designs made for other members. Avatars cost $3 via PayPal, but were comped for Staff and members of the '1K Club' (a post-count status tier), highlighting the site's little internal economy and hierarchy of clout. A small, mundane but very of-its-era slice of forum commerce and community status culture.

fkn0wned SOTW #2! (Signature of the Week - Movies theme)

Round two of the GFX Basement's signature contest — theme: 2008-2009 movies, judged by adjustment layers and PSD proof.

This is the second installment of the 'Sig of the Week' contest run in the GFX Basement, hosted by admin jChase after a successful 20-entry debut week. The theme was movies released in 2008-2009, with strict dimension and technique requirements (mandatory adjustment layer, PSD required to verify authenticity). ZoaQ was quick to post an entry based on Transformers 2, showing off a screenshot and gating the PSD/pass behind a private message restricted to GFX team and admins. The thread captures the casual, competitive creative culture of the forum's design subcommunity.

New Member Asks About Userbars

New guy asks where everyone's fancy sig banners came from — turns out he just didn't know the magic word: 'userbars.'

A newer member named Edgo asks where forum users got the little sig banners (like 'Fkn0wned user', 'css player', 'Proud to be an aussie') seen under people's posts, wondering if they were custom-made or sourced from a site. A few regulars needle him for not just Googling it, one jokes the banners link out to another site, until someone points out the actual term is 'userbars' rather than 'banners' and drops a link to a userbar site. Mundane but charmingly typical of the forum's low-stakes, sig-culture chatter.

SOTW Vote Suggestion Thread

A user politely asks: could someone please tell us the theme before we vote on these signatures?

In the GFX Basement's Sig Of The Week feature, member Rebelz raised a small but sensible suggestion during the SOTW #38 voting round: the weekly theme wasn't being stated anywhere in the voting thread, making it hard for voters (as opposed to entrants) to judge entries fairly against the intended theme. A couple of other members chimed in, one agreeing it would help, another puzzled since he assumed the theme was always posted in the submission thread. A minor, functional back-and-forth typical of the site's GFX community trying to improve its own contest process.

Sig of the Week Voting - Should Voting Be Mandatory?

Should Fkn0wned force everyone to vote in Sig of the Week before letting them back into the forums?

A member named Sideways proposes making voting in the 'Sig of the Week' (SOTW) contest mandatory, arguing low turnout (31 votes among 42 online members) makes the poll feel unimpressive. The idea gets some cautious support but is mostly shot down by regulars and staff, who argue it would let people who only care about hacks or porn just click the first option to get past a forced vote wall. Admin Shifty and Super Moderator DCLXVI close out the debate agreeing the plan would backfire, and the suggestion is dismissed as unworkable.

Everyone should be REQUIRED to vote.. on the current SOTW there is 31 total votes, there is 42 members on right now.— Sideways
imagine you are a person who just wants hacks or porn, and you really want them, and don't want to do anything before using them. If voting was compulsory, that person would just press the first sig on the list— DCLXVI
Yep, exactly. Case closed.— Shifty.

Design This the Best! — Junnyerr's GFX Competition Thread

A member launches his own rival sig contest to SOTW — with an Assassin's Creed account on the line and a self-deprecating punchline as the pitch.

This was a short-lived GFX competition thread started by longtime member Junnyerr, pitched as a scrappy alternative to the forum's official 'Sig Of The Week' contest, greenlit informally by Ap3x and TUX. Entrants were asked to design a sig or banner using one of two provided renders of Phil Harris, with the week-one prize being a free Assassin's Creed account. The thread got only a handful of replies — some banter about the quality of the renders and a couple of jokes — before fizzling out after just one entry was posted.

Well this is like SOTW but a nigger is running the show here.— Junnyerr
Brilliant idea for a black guy though :)— pikachu
Are we allowed to use stocks of him? Because those renders you just posted are crap hehe.— Kimmi

The 'How to Cheat in Photoshop CS3' E-Book Request

A cheekily-titled e-book request that had half the forum confused about what exactly you 'cheat' at in Photoshop

In the Requests subforum of the Red Light District section, member Peski-Ruski asked for a copy of a Photoshop CS3 e-book about creating photorealistic montages, offering forum points as a reward. Sammo quickly supplied a link (unverified, gated by low post counts), and the thread devolved into a long string of low-effort 'unhide'/'interested' bumps typical of points-gated request threads, with several posters puzzling over the misleading 'cheat' framing of the title. A GFX staffer (pato) and a range of regular members dropped in mostly just to bump visibility rather than discuss content.

You owe me very big time for this, i expect alot of points!!!!— sammo

COOLEST B0otSk!ns & LogOn Screens!

One member dumps a mega-gallery of custom Windows boot screens and login screens across three posts because the forum wouldn't let him post them all in one.

Started by anarchie65 in October 2007, this thread was a straightforward showcase of custom Windows XP-era bootskins and logon screens, ranging from movie/game-themed designs (WarCraft III, Halo, FIFA, Pirates of the Caribbean, Firefox) to novelty 'Hacker' and 'Virus Edition' skins. The OP had to split the gallery across three consecutive posts after hitting the forum's image-posting limit. The rest of the thread is classic low-effort appreciation replies ('nice', 'thx', 'sexy', 'owned') typical of a customization/download thread, with a few members singling out favorites like the NVidia and Virus Edition skins.

Sorry, but you have posted more images than you are allowed to— anarchie65

The Shittiest Thing in Teh World

Rockforce posts a self-deprecating GIF and the GFX Basement mostly just shrugs and vibes.

A short, low-stakes GFX Basement thread from January 2007 where user Rockforce shares a self-mocking image sig/graphic, joking it's the worst thing around besides his own signature. A handful of regulars drop in with quick one-liners of approval or mild ribbing, including a jab from a since-banned member. Nothing dramatic — just a quiet little moment of forum camaraderie in the graphics subforum.

Signature I made for a friend

A member posts his sig work and the resident GFX Crew gently rips it apart, rule-of-thirds and all.

In the GFX Basement, user dgrock shared a signature graphic he'd made for a friend (hosted via ImageShack) and asked for feedback. Members of the [FkN] Graphics Crew, including ProVocation and zanderdanmark, gave detailed critique covering composition, lighting, text placement, and pointed him toward the tutorials section to improve. dgrock took the criticism well and thanked everyone, with kennutz chiming in to reinforce the same points. A small, ordinary but very typical GFX community exchange — critique culture over clout.

good job on keeping everything in the same style and color. you did follow the rule of thirds, another good thing. however there are so many random things slapped on the bg idk where to look.— [FkN] ProVocation
Text doesnt really work well tbh. I suggest you read some tuts and try using some c4ds.— [FkN] zanderdanmark

Req. by Darkness - signature critique thread

EqueL drops 4AM sigs, gets told the distort effect looks 'pixalated' by the FkN Graphics Crew leader

A member named EqueL posted a set of signature graphics made for a request called 'Darkness' in the GFX Basement's requests area, admitting they were thrown together at 4AM through creative block. The thread turns into a small back-and-forth critique session typical of GFX forums of the era: [FkN] TheJah, leader of the graphics crew, criticizes the pixelation of the distort effect and gives technique advice, EqueL pushes back defending the effect, and [FkN] GodPower chimes in praising one version but asking for a borderless edit. It's a low-drama, workmanlike slice of the forum's graphic design subculture rather than a major event.

Nothing really special, my creative block kicked in after I resized the stock >.> As always made at 4AM.— EqueL

A sig i made for Emrys <3

OJJ posts a "1337" sig that's basically a recolored Google image — the GFX Basement is not fooled.

OJJ shared a signature graphic dedicated to Emrys in the GFX Basement, casually admitting the images were 'taken from google.' Several members (DarkRood, mystical, ZeuS, SNK) immediately called out the lack of actual effort or editing beyond color changes and text, sparking a round of playful-but-pointed criticism. Emrys himself weighed in to defend the critics rather than the OP, and things devolved into mockery before mod TheJah locked the thread, citing spam and image ripping. A minor, very typical GFX-section spat that ended with a lock and a lesson about crediting real work.

First Sig of 2010 — pheonixinwater's C&C Thread

New year, new sig: the GFX Basement crew rings in 2010 with a Will.I.Am smudge and a car sig nobody can agree on.

A GFX Basement regular, pheonixinwater, kicked off January 2010 by posting a new signature (a smudge piece using a Will.I.Am stock photo shared by fellow designer BONxFIRE) along with two versions of a separate car-themed sig, asking the board for critique. The thread is a classic slice of forum graphic-design culture: members trade polite, detailed feedback on smudging technique, hair rendering, color choice, and text placement, and debate whether v1 or v2 of the car sig works better. It's low-drama, purely craft-focused, with a small crew of regulars (BONxFIRE, Zionq, viper107, and newcomer b3balla03) chiming in with constructive critique.

Great smudging, i love the bright colors :) only thing that's not that great is the rendering of his dreadlocks/hair imo— BONxFIRE
smudging looks great. The only thing that bothers me a bit is the left side, it messes up the flow for me— Zionq

Zander's Sig Request

One crew member wanted a signature, offered a Windows key as payment, and got it done in a day.

A quick, routine request thread in the GFX Requests section where [FkN] zanderdanmark asked for a custom signature, casually offering a Windows key as a thank-you if the artist wanted it. Member kennutz delivered a finished sig the next day, Zander approved, and a graphics staffer closed the thread as filled. A small, everyday snapshot of the forum's GFX Basement culture — quick turnarounds, casual bartering, and staff keeping the request queue tidy.

Guy asks for a custom avatar with 'much high colors' — gets exactly what he deserved.

A small, forgettable GFX Requests thread from July 2011 where member Charlie FkN Provider asked for a personal avatar with vague instructions ('high colors'). After an impatient bump got him a mild warning from graphics crew member ProVocation for bumping too soon, ProVocation eventually delivered a joke/troll avatar mocking the lack of detail in the request. EqueL chimed in riffing on the ambiguous 'high colors' request. A tiny, mundane slice of the GFX Basement's day-to-day request culture and community banter.

Calling All GFX Guys: Background Commission for $5

RandyCandy offers $5 PayPal (or a bracelet?) for a YouTube-style site background, and the forum's GFX crowd shows up to argue dimensions

A VIP member named RandyCandy posts in the Buyers Section asking the forum's graphic designers to make a background and banner for his personal wallpaper site, offering a small PayPal payment. Several regular members (ZeuS, Guzziex, Uberkist, toastie) jump in offering to try it for free, joking about payment in Steam or a bracelet, and hashing out technical details like screen resolution and tiling. It's a small, casual slice of forum commerce culture — low stakes, friendly bantering, and amateur GFX work being traded for pocket change or lulz rather than serious money.

Wonder Arts - February Pack (GFX Resource Drop)

A GFX resource drop from 2011 that people were still saying thanks for years later

A short, low-drama resource-sharing thread in the GFX Resources subforum where staff member [FkN] Emrys posted a 'Wonder Arts' February resource pack (a linked preview image plus hidden download content unlocked by replying). The thread is a classic example of the forum's reply-to-unlock GFX resource culture, with a trickle of members dropping by over time just to say thanks or express interest. Nothing contentious happened here — just quiet, steady appreciation for a graphic design resource pack typical of the site's Art and Design section.

SOTW #38 Vote

43 votes, one signature graphic crowned champion — the GFX Basement's weekly popularity contest lives on in the archive.

This is the vote thread for the 38th 'Sig Of The Week' contest in Fkn0wned.com's GFX Basement section, where members submitted signature graphics and the community voted for their favorite. RivaL narrowly edged out Demfire for the win with 43 total votes cast, while a few low-vote entrants like DJSketch and Archies popped in afterward to thank whoever voted for them. Standard low-key SOTW housekeeping thread, with the rule reminder that self-voting got you dropped from the round and IPs were monitored for spam votes.

Mediocre work - GFX Basement

A member posts self-admittedly rough smudge art and the forum's resident GFX critics deliver polite but honest feedback.

In the Art and Design section's GFX Basement, member CandleJack shared some digital art (smudge/render work) posted via imgur, self-deprecatingly titling the thread 'Mediocre work' and asking for critique and comments. A few regulars weighed in with genuine feedback comparing the two pieces, noting one smudge attempt looked decent though 'boring' while the other had visible mistakes. It's a small, low-key exchange typical of the forum's design subculture, where members workshopped GFX skills like smudging, C4D renders, and brush techniques.
